Alan & Janet Ellerton; our very first visitors who actually arrived before we were officially open in mid April 2008, they then wrote: -
Unaccustomed as we are to passing on any special 'gems'(purely for selfish reasons), we cannot keep this purrrfect site to ourselves.
Jan and I love very quiet, spacious 'CL' type sites in the UK. So we were a bit disappointed to find so few small 'camping a la ferme' sites in France.
However ! La Tournerie is up there amongst the best anywhere, UK included. Idyllic views - deafening silence (except when one sneezes)- spacious pitches, electric hookups, and a toilet block that would be the envy of ANY caravan site, or for that matter B & B's. Even though the block was not quite finished, the standard and the facilities were obvious to see. Quality was the norm and attention to detail everywhere. Phil and Wendy have really worked a fantastic transformation of what was only 6 months ago a gently sloping field with open views across the Dordogne. Their website truly says it all - and probably underestimates it in many areas. They are there if you need them, across the field if you don't.
The area has a wealth of attractions including Grottes, Caves, Chateaux, and beautiful villages. Rocamadour (a must visit) and Domme are only an hours drive away.
There are loads of establishments for dining or snacking - to suit all pockets, and Intermarche is only 10 mins away in Montigniac which is a lovely place to eat your lunch by the river Vezere.
We could go on, but honestly, to visit a site which has everything - a site that is in the middle of everything and a site just to crash out away from everything, you must try La Tournerie !
Alan & Janet were back again in 2009 and they wrote: -
Well, we promised to return to la Tournerie and we did - We expected to see the same quality, friendly and quiet haven that we enjoyed last Easter. We were NOT disappointed!
Seriously anyone who finds complaint with this site will never be satisfied !
Alan & Janet are not accustomed to going to sites more than once, however they have now been here 5 times!

John & Yufang Nash stopped with us in 2011, they wrote: -  We spent 12 nights here early in September. It is the only site we've visited where we felt like it was home. At so many sites the other visitors are pleasant, but tend to keep to themselves, but at La Tournerie a warm, friendly atmosphere permeates the whole site. Without exception EVERYONE speaks to you and first names are the rule of the day.
The site is set on a gently sloping hillside, which has been terraced to give all pitches (of which there are only six or seven) a view of the forest scenery. Our pitch was not the biggest, but had ample room for a double axle van, canopy and parking for a large 4WD. The top two pitches on the site are quite large and are fenced & gated to provide a completely enclosed pitch giving dogs the opportunity to safely roam free.
The recently built toilet block is spotlessly clean and is regularly checked & cleaned. This toilet block is like no other you'll find in France and is more reminiscent of the facilities you'd find in a good hotel en suite. Power is 6 amps with a two pin EU plug.
The roads leading to the site from Montignac are all tarmac and most are single lane, but Phil & Wendy email you directions that bring you into the site by the best of the lanes. The road edges run off into unfenced fields, so there's very few bushes or branches to scratch your car or van.
The location is 10 or 15 minutes from Montignac, about half an hour from Sarlat and the same from Terrasson. Montignac has an Intermarche supermarket, banks, post office and numerous riverside alfresco eating places. Pleasingly we found parking in Montignac and Terrasson to free, but please check first.
My wife and I enjoy leisure cycling and we found the immediate terrain around the campsite to be quite hilly & challenging. We found it was better to take the cycles to Montignac by car & then follow the river on a relatively flat road.
If you're into walking or mountain biking there's no end of trails through the forest, many of which are passable by car with care. We explored many of these trails on foot & never saw another soul. There are wild boar in the forest and my wife was startled by one, which is a rare occasion. We all said she was fortunate to have this happen, but she didn't think so at the time.
Be sure to book in advance, as the site was full for most of the time we were there.

Would we go again: definitely and so will you.

There are 8 pitches, quite a way from each other with just enough space for our giant tent and car! The bathrooms are extremely modern and everyone makes an effort to keep them spotlessly clean all the time. The site is in the middle of nowhere but it is only a 15 min drive to the supermarket at Montignac and the roads are very good. Met some very nice people and hope to return when our batteries need recharging.

Phil and Wendy are excellent hosts ensuring that from your arrival to departure you are made to feel welcome. The facilities put the Caravan Club to shame, spotlessly clean with ample space, and how about three shower rooms for only eight pitches!
Local attractions are excellent from historic interest, kayaking to walking, cycling and numerous villages and towns all within one hour’s drive.
If you wish to take your four legged friend then there are two dedicated pitches with their own fence and gate, even your dog will not want to go home!
If eating is your desire then you will not be disappointed. Restaurants are in abundance, either in the local town of your choice, or recommendations as given on the notice board in the shower block.

We shall certainly return in the future.

Walter & Avril Satterthwaite who originally stopped with us twice a year from 2008 through to 2013 : -
This really is our sort of site. A small (8 pitch) adult only site with beautiful views and no passing traffic whets the appetite. The prospect of enclosed individual pitches for dog owning caravanners was enough to tempt us to try it.
Dogs welcome? - Wow! – Our dogs had an acre to themselves – all enclosed with the van. The lane past the site – hardly used – led down to mixed deciduous woods and pasture land. Nightingales and Golden Orioles to be heard but not seen – forays into the woodland around yielded red deer and red squirrels in compensation, and an array of birds of prey cruised past.
The owners have a clear vision of what they would like to see on a site, and have delivered it. The pitches are spacious – the 2 fenced dog pitches are enormous, and the brand new toilet block has been built to a standard beyond expectation on a small site.
This environment is so relaxing, it’s easy to forget that Les Eyzies, Sarlat, Domme are within easy reach, and Perigueux’s Roman museum is only 50km away. Montignac is a pretty town, with an abundance of good eating places at lunchtimes - the only downside a temperamental laundrette.
How can time pass so slowly and fly by simultaneously? We came away contented but with so much more to see and do.
Walter & Avril loved La Tournerie so much that they bought a special van to store here.

Ian & Dawn Wilson wrote in July 2009: -  We've just returned from 2 weeks on this idyllic "Adults Only" site - and can assure you that other comments are in no way over the top.
You can walk for miles through the woods and fields that surround you - or choose from a multitude of "tourist" attractions. The area is rich in history - literally covering 17,000 years of human habitation. Caves, Chateaux, medieval towns & spectacular gardens are truly worthwhile day trips. Then you can leave the masses behind and return to the haven of La Tournerie.
And that is the real raison d’être of this place. If you cherish peace & quiet & could do with stepping off the daily treadmill for a while – then do consider hiding away on this gem of a site.

La Tournerie Ferme is a small 8 pitch CL type site situated in a delightful rural area high above the town of Montignac some 4 miles away.
We have just returned from 3 glorious weeks on this idyllic site & have nothing but praise for the way the site is maintained & managed.
If you are looking for an adult only site with large pitches, a state of the art toilet block, stupendous views, & most important of all sheer peace & quiet, then this is the place for you.
Visit their easy to use website, it's worth it & should you then decide to spend a holiday there you will have no regrets.
